Designing a dream home can be overwhelming if you are not familiar with the process (or if you need a refresher). Each client comes to us with a unique lifestyle, and it’s our job to ask the right questions to learn what will make you LOVE your home. Before you look to hire an architect, start building your wish lists. Cut up magazines, create Pinterest Boards, & organize photos to help illustrate which layouts, textures & colors you visualize. Ask yourself these questions BEFORE you begin researching.
Where’s the property?
Knowing your property’s location will help your architect conceptualizing your vision, especially when they are more familiar with specific zoning requirements and building codes.
Who’s living with you?
Will this be your primary residence or a weekend retreat? Who will be living with you in this home? And over time, how will this change? Understanding your long & short-term plans will help your architect determine your floor plan requirements.
Room Layouts ?
How do you want to utilize each space in your home? What level of organization would make you swoon? Are you sick of stuffing the kid’s sports gear into a hallway closet or jockeying for space to park your car in the garage? Go through each room and consider the layouts that would make you breathe easier. What activities will allow you to enjoy doing in your home because the function of each room adds ease and enjoyment?
What’s Your Style?
What is your personal style, and how would you like that reflected in your home? What details would make you enjoy, relax, or feel inspired? There is not just one answer. Let your creativity flow! Bringing visuals to illustrate your needs will enhance the productivity of your conversations with your architect.
