If you have strolled down the mall of Ocean Grove or flipped by HBO channels on your TV, then you very well may recognize this historic hotel. The front balcony of the Albatross Hotel, with it’s curved handrail and oversized fluted columns, was featured in HBO’s dramatic Boardwalk Empire Season 4 opener. Its second floor balcony stretches across the whole front of the building with views overlooking the greenery of the mall.
Since the building’s heyday, it unfortunately had been neglected and is currently in need of modernization. As a result, McHugh Architecture in association with The Architect’s Studio and interior designer, Mapa Mueller, have forged a dynamic partnership to breathe new life into this iconic Ocean Grove landmark for the hotel’s new owners. Together, we are not just renovating a building; we are revitalizing a piece of history while preserving its timeless charm and rich narrative.
While continuing the hotel’s historic legacy of grandeur, and elegance, the hotel will be infused with modern functionality.
Hotel guests will be able to enjoy a vibrant lobby lounge and cafe. Each of the guest rooms will be increased in size. Other modifications will include a full elevator, all new HVAC system, modern fire suppression, and other handicap accessibility elements.
The design & engineering teams have been hard at work developing the design, construction documents, and undergoing historic preservation commission & township approvals. Interior demolition has begun. We are excited to bring this historic hotel back to life with a full renovation from head to toe!
Be a part of our story as we breathe new life into this cherished piece of history and get ready to experience the enduring allure of the Albatross Hotel like never before. As we embark on this journey of restoration and renewal, we invite you to join us every step of the way.
