VISION & NEEDS: This couple each had two kids from previous marriages and lived in separate households from one another. They
were looking to unite their blended family of 6 under one roof. They needed a home that allowed them to enjoy each other's company
all together. Also, they wanted to give each child some privacy and space of their own. McHugh delivered space for all to connect
with one another, pursue interests, and recharge with one's own down-time.
MCHUGH SOLUTION:
Our design prioritized space for the whole family to gather in the open-concept kitchen & living area with seating on two sides of the
island and room for plenty of comfortable seating in the living area. Through a wall of French doors, the opportunities to connect and
socialize continue, as these spaces overlook a rear covered porch with additional seating, a patio below, and a yard for their dog. The
kids also use this space for getting away from the parents and having friends over – in addition to their own dedicated space in the
basement.
Along with the family gathering spaces, our design created places for each family member with a home office for one of the parents,
separate bedrooms for each of the kids with their own desk space, additional bathrooms for the kids, a master suite retreat with a
separate bath for the parents & a freestanding tub to unwind at the end of a long day.
An updated Coastal Shingle Style design was our client's dream home style. The home features a beautiful oval window, curved
gambrel roofs, and awnings with exposed rafter details. Instead of the expected traditional cedar shingle look for the siding, we went
with a more modern take with the use of this horizontal siding with crisp clean square edges in white. The beachy exterior color
scheme both reflects the home’s shore-town location and allows the home to be showcased.
